Sugar Cane Fire:
Take the chance and see a sugar cane fire: 
Cane fires in Northern Queensland are a tradition that will continue only for a few more years.
As the wind drops and the sun goes down the farmers go out with their cans of liquid fire and drop it at the bottom the cane fields. Seconds later the fields erupt into fireballs of fire that last for less than a minute.
The fire burns off the excess from the cane and clears away the wild life for harvesting in the early hours of the following morning. The surrounding towns get a phenomenon known as "black snow" as the ash rains down for miles around.
A cane fire is one of THE most spectacular sights that you will ever see.

Go to the beach:
We are 10 minutes away from Alva Beach, a natural beach area. During the year you can see thousands of starfish, pelicans, sand dollars and lots of crabs and fish!
Dive: Visit one of the top 10 wreck dives in the world! The beach near Ayr is the closest to the wreck and Yongala Dive runs daily dive trips subject to weather.
The wreck of the SS Yongala is around 12 nautical miles from Alva Beach near Ayr. This is the closest departure point to the wreck! Why not experience the MOST amazing misplay of marine life that you will ever see!
The SS Yongala sank in a cyclone on the 23 March 1911 remaining undiscovered for almost 50 years and was not positively identified until 1966. The Yongala is regarded as being one of the worlds 10 best dives!!

Golf:Play where champions play! Ayr is the golf course where Karrie Webb, women’s golfing legend learned to play. The golf course is a 10 minute walk from the hostel and offers discounted rates for golf on Mondays and Tuesdays (9 or 18 holes for $13).
Mini Golf and the new 'Nightime Golf Tournament' is also available!
Movies:Delta Cinemas are located right next door. They have a $10 movie deal for people staying at Delta Backpackers. They also have 'Budget Wednesday' where all cinema tickts are $8.50.
Ayr also has a Drive-in-Cinema where you can watch 2 movies for only $8!!
10 Pin Bowling:Great fun to be had playing 10 pen bowling!! Happy hour games available Friday and Saturday nights!
